Counselling and Therapy
Hypnotherapy
Hypnosis is promoted as a treatment for many conditions and issues. Research does provide support for using hypnosis for some, but not all, of the conditions for which many of us know it is used for.
Unlike how many of us have seen hypnosis portrayed, you do not lose control over your behavior while under hypnosis during a hypnotherapy session.. Most importantly, you generally remain aware of and can recall what happens during your hypnotherapy sessions.
Research* shows strong evidence for the using of hypnosis to treat:
- pain
- irritable bowel syndrome
- post-traumatic stress disorder
- insomnia
Limited evidence* suggests hypnosis may be used to treat:
- depression
- anxiety
- smoking cessation
- post-surgical wound healing
- weight loss

What is most important to know is that the “therapy” part of hypnotherapy is as important as the hypnosis part itself. Hypnotherapy is a counselling modality that works like all forms of counselling because it works with the qualities that you bring to sessions.
Because a skilled hypnotherapist knows how to be alongside you while in hypnosis, we can also help you while you access the full creativity and depth of your unconscious mind. From here, we can begin to broaden your therapy into the full exploration that brought you to our work together.
