Exploring the Conscious and the Non-Conscious

In the early stages of our work together, depth psychology invites us to explore the dynamic relationship between your conscious experiences and the deeper, non-conscious layers of your mind. As we move gently into this territory, memories, emotions, bodily sensations, and personal stories often begin to surface—experiences that may have been ignored, denied, or forgotten. This exploration is not about forcing anything forward, but about creating the space for what has always been there to be seen, understood, and integrated.

Somatic Awareness: A Pathway Inward

One of the most meaningful ways to access these deeper realms is through the body. By paying close attention to sensations, emotional shifts, subtle tensions, and the energetic movements within you, we begin to understand how your body communicates your history and holds what the mind may not fully articulate. The body often speaks before the mind does, offering essential information that guides healing, awareness, and connection.

Understanding Internal Parts

As this work unfolds, we may meet different parts of your internal experience—some familiar and conscious, others protective, hidden, or shaped by earlier stages of life. Many of these parts once played an important role in helping you navigate the world, yet some may now be influencing you in ways that no longer feel supportive. Our work focuses on understanding these parts with compassion, discovering their intentions, and forming new relationships with them so they can evolve rather than constrain. I draw from a range of therapeutic modalities to support this process of integration.

Considering Epigenetic Influences

Our exploration may also touch on the field of epigenetics, which looks at how the experiences of prior generations—especially trauma and hardship—can influence gene expression and shape emotional or behavioural patterns today. Recognizing these inherited influences provides a deeper understanding of why certain reactions or challenges arise and opens pathways toward resilience, self-leadership, and greater capacity.

Depth psychology offers a profound and transformative journey, one that brings unconscious patterns into the light, deepens your understanding of yourself, and supports you in living with greater clarity, integration, and freedom.
